NCC Congratulates Scott, Thompson on Appointments

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The National Cotton Council (NCC) welcomes Representative David Scott’s (D-GA) selection as chairman of the House Agriculture Committee for the 117th Congress.

NCC Chairman Kent Fountain, a Georgia producer and ginner, said, “David Scott has an intimate knowledge of production agriculture and the challenges faced by today’s farmers to continue providing safe, affordable and abundant food and fiber for our great nation. His lengthy service on the agriculture committee, including his valuable input on three farm bills, will serve him well in his new leadership role.”

The NCC also offered congratulations to Representative Glenn Thompson (R-PA) who was selected as the Committee’s ranking member.

Fountain noted that Thompson was instrumental in crafting the 2018 farm bill and his multiple years of experience on the agriculture committee should prove beneficial when the next farm bill is developed.

“The U.S. cotton industry believes that both of these Congressmen will work to put strong farm policy and programs in place that will help cotton producers remain competitive and our rural economy to thrive,” Fountain said.

As the central organization for the U.S. cotton industry, the Memphis-based NCC serves as the unifying force in working with policymakers to ensure cotton’s interests are heard. The NCC’s mission is ensuring the industry’s seven segments’ ability to compete effectively and profitably in the raw cotton, oilseed and U.S.-manufactured product markets at home and abroad.
