Pesticide resistance and regulatory challenges threaten the sustainability of tools currently in a farmer’s toolbox. For most Georgians, pesticide regulations pose the greatest threat with the recent Engenia, XtendiMax, and Tavium court decisions, highlighting this reality. The 2024 Using Pesticides Wisely (UPW) training will fulfill federal label requirements ensuring each applicator is trained prior to applying these products.

The 2024 UPW training will focus on the current status of in-crop dicamba products (Engenia, XtendiMax, and Tavium) as well as the factors that continue to challenge their potential future use. Other topics being addressed will include understanding effective cotton and soybean programs as influenced by the amount of in-crop dicamba products available, application parameters to help ensure pesticides are applied on-target and remain there, an update on the Endangered Species Act and its threat to pesticides, proper methods to clean clothes after applying pesticides, as well as hearing directly from the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

Two hours of pesticide credit will be provided for those attending; one does not have to be a dicamba applicator to attend the training as all are encouraged to attend. [READ MORE]
